Neuro-Ophthalmology
Marjorie A. Murphy, MD is the director of Neuro-Ophthalmology at Rhode Island Hospital and is a clinical associate professor of ophthalmology at the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University. Monthly neuro-ophthalmology lectures are given by Dr. Murphy during the academic year, covering the following topics: the neuro-ophthalmic exam, visual fields, oculomotor palsies, supranuclear and internuclear gaze disturbances, ocular myopathies, the pupil, optic neuropathies, and nystagmus and related ocular oscillations.
In addition, Dr. Murphy supervises monthly neuro-ophthalmology clinics with the ophthalmology residents at Rhode Island Hospital. Both ophthalmology and neurology residents at RIH have additional required neuro-ophthalmology rotations seeing patients with her in her private office. Residents are encouraged to pursue clinical research projects in neuro-ophthalmology, typically involving case reports or small case series, and are guided through the process of preparing manuscripts for submission and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
