Creative Arts Council at Brown University
The CAC is no longer accepting applications for the Fall 2009 Flexible Fund Grant program. Check back in late January for the Spring 2010 Cycle
The Brown University Creative Arts Council provides funding to Brown-based faculty and students in support of projects including, but not limited to: visiting artists, performances, lectures, symposia, and exhibitions. Grant requests may not exceed $5,000.
• Applicants must be Brown faculty or approved students with a faculty supervisor
• Applications must be for projects at least one semester in the future
Proposals for the following will NOT be considered:
o Regular operating funds, or projects normally funded by department/program funds
o Course relief or funds to support an individual class
o Building projects, construction, or renovation projects
• Proposals should display originality of purpose and efficient use of resources.
• Applicants should have additional sources of funding pending. CAC Grants may not be used as the exclusive source of funding for proposals.
• Priority will be given to proposals supported by more than one department/discipline.
Applicants are encouraged to meet with the CAC Program Coordinator prior to submitting the final application to ensure completeness of application. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Sponsoring Department: Proposals must be approved by the department chair. If an award is granted, funds will be disbursed through an interdepartmental invoice, and the sponsoring department will bear fiduciary responsibility for the project.
Student Applicants: Student applicants must receive approval from the CAC Program Coordinator to apply to the Flexible Fund Program. Approved student applicants must have a faculty sponsor willing to work closely with the student(s) towards completion of the project. Letters of recommendation will not substitute for faculty sponsorship. Faculty sponsors will bear fiduciary responsibility for the project.
The CAC will consider grant requests once per semester. Applications must be received by noon on October 9 for funds available the following semester. No deadline extensions will be granted. Applicants will be invited to present their grant proposals to the CAC Executive Committee.
• The CAC logo should be included in printed materials. Proposals funded by the CAC should be acknowledged as such in all publicity materials with the following:

• A change in scope of the project must be reported to the CAC immediately.
• A final report, including final budget, must be submitted to the CAC within 30 days of completion of the sponsored program.
• Unused funds must be returned to the CAC within 14 days of completion of the sponsored program.

Offered once per semester to Brown-based faculty or students with faculty sponsors in support of projects including, but not limited to: performances, lectures, festivals, visiting artists, symposia, etc.
Offered once per academic year to Brown-based faculty in support of artist residencies of one week or longer. Proposals should be interdisciplinary in nature, either submitted by more than one department, or for intermedial artists. Proposals must be for residencies to take place during the 2010-2011 academic year.

Offered once per semester to undergraduate and graduate students in support of projects dealing with the production, study, or critique of the creative arts.
