Welcome
A Message From the Chairman, Dr. John J. Cronan
The Brown Department of Diagnostic Imaging takes pride in the excellence achieved in clinical care, education and clinical research. Rhode Island Hospital and its affiliated institutions occupy a 66 acre campus in the heart of Providence, the state capital of Rhode Island and New England’s second largest city. Together with Hasbro Children’s Hospital and Women and Infants’ Hospital, the complex provides 1,100 beds and serves as the major teaching facility of Brown Medical School. Rhode Island Hospital is designated a Level 1 Trauma Center and serves as a major referral and teaching center for surgery and diagnostic radiology. Together with Women and Infants’ Hospital, a major referral and teaching center for reproductive medicine, breast disease and gynecological oncology, and Hasbro Children’s Hospital, the institutions form the tertiary referral center between Boston and New Haven along the northeastern seaboard.
The patients served by this medical complex include the Providence metropolitan area of approximately 450,000 people, the state of Rhode Island’s population of 1 million as well as patients from southeastern Massachusetts and eastern Connecticut.
The Department of Diagnostic Imaging, a fully PACS-enabled academic department of Brown Medical School, provides services at each of the above hospitals. With over 500,000 imaging examinations performed annually, there is a broad array of diagnostic imaging and intervention that provides an excellent foundation for graduate medical education.
