Lodging

There are several lodging options, ranging from well-appointed hotels, to quaint B&B’s to moderate hotels, to dormitory rooms for those on a tight budget.

For those seeking off-campus lodging in a hotel or B&B, you should make arrangements yourself by contacting the hotel directly.  Several convenient hotels and B&Bs are listed below.

Dormitory lodging is available in the Brown University dormitories ($50/night/single room).  Reservation and payment for rooms are made through the Registration link on the AGA Symposium Registration page.

Dormitory housing is suite style with 4-5 single rooms per suite sharing a common room. Each individually locked bedroom is furnished with a bed, pillow, desk, lamp, chair, dresser and linens. Bathrooms are located outside of the suite on the hallway and are separated by gender. NOTE: Dormitory Housing is only available from Sunday, June 7 - Friday June 12, 2009.

A block of rooms have been reserved at a reduced rate ($144 per night) at the Providence Biltmore Hotel in downtown Providence.  The Biltmore is about ¾ of a mile from the Brown Campus.  This is walk-able for people who do not mind a good hill climb (15 minutes to the Symposium venue).  Shuttle service will be available in the morning and evening.

Nice hotel style rooms that are in a separate wing of a new dormitory quad on the Brown Campus about a 5-10 minute walk to the Symposium venue.  Very convenient, but rooms are limited.

A full service hotel adjacent to the Biltmore in downtown providence, about a 15-minute walk to the Symposium venue, up College Hill. A short walk to the Biltmore where one could catch the morning shuttle bus to campus.

A very nice B&B on historic Benefit Street, which has one of the highest densities of houses on the national historic register. About 5-10 minute walk to the Symposium venue.

A very pleasant and interesting B&B close to the Brown Campus.  C.C. Ledbetter is a character and serves a great breakfast.  About a 5-10 minute walk to the Symposium venue.  Located across the street from the historic John Brown house, and a short walk to the RISD Museum and other Providence attractions.
