The Graduate Program in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology is intended for highly qualified students who plan to pursue a career that includes research in ecology, functional morphology, behavior and/or evolutionary biology. Admission to graduate study is usually open only to candidates for the Ph. D. degree. Individual programs are designed to meet each student's needs and interests while providing a strong background in ecology, evolutionary biology and related areas. The major requirement for the Ph. D. is the doctoral thesis, the culmination of an original research program. The thesis itself should present work of a quality adequate to justify publication in recognized journals of the field. Brown/MBL Program
Brown has recently entered an exciting research and educational partnership with the Marine Biological
Laboratory at Woods Hole (MBL). MBL is one of the oldest and most accomplished biological research laboratories
in the world. MBL has over 45 research faculty with specific strengths in ecosystem ecology, molecular systematics
and animal behavior that complement research interests in EEB. The centerpiece of this partnership is the Brown/MBL
Joint Graduate Program. Students in this program are admitted through existing graduate programs at Brown and are
co-advised by Brown and MBL faculty. If you are interested in this program contact the Brown and MBL faculty you are
interested in working with directly. To be competitive for this program you should develop faculty advocates for your
application at both Brown and MBL who are excited to sponsor you.
