Prospective Students
Thanks very much for your interest in my lab. I am actively seeking undergraduate interns, and plan to take one or more graduate students in Fall 2008.
If you are an undergraduate, please contact me by email to discuss your interests and potential opportunities to get involved in research.
I will accept Masters students through the Center for Environmental Studies , which has a strong tradition of interdisciplinary scholarship and training.
I will accept PhD students through the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, which has a strong marine group (including Mark Bertness, Jon Witman, Casey Dunn, and myself). To learn more about E&EB, see http://www.brown.edu/Departments/EEB/. The Brown/MBL partnership provides additional opportunities for research and training: "http://www.brown.edu/Research/MBL/index.html.
I encourage you to start thinking about a project that you could pitch for an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, due in November http://www.nsfgradfellows.org/ or an EPA Star Fellowship , http://es.epa.gov/ncer/rfa/2008/2008_star_fellow.html. Such a fellowship offers considerable financial resources, and also requires that you start thinking about how to translate your interests into a specific project. Both masters and PhD students are eligible for these awards.
If you would like to talk about possible project ideas or the graduate experience at Brown, please feel free to email me. Please include information about your interests, and academic and research experience.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Heather Leslie (Heather_Leslie @ brown.edu)
