The morning began with a presentation by John Donoghue, The Henry Merritt Wriston Professor and director of the Brain Science Program, who discussed his new invention BrainGate, a brain decoder device that could transform the lives of paralyzed people by allowing them to move objects with their thoughts. Brown graduate students then led the high school students on a tour of the new five-story, 169,000-square-foot facility which will be home to 39 faculty members from the Department of Neuroscience and the Department of Molecular Biology, Cell Biology and Biochemistry. Afterwards, the high school students had lunch with Brown undergraduate and graduate students who talked about their research interests, career goals, and experiences at Brown.

The event was organized by the Office of Public Affairs and University Relations and Lamont Gordon, Director of Education Outreach in the Education Department.
