Professor Kenneth Wong joined U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan at
a symposium on "Transforming Public Education" in the Peoria (IL) Civic
Center on April 21, 2010. Attended by 500 policymakers and educators,
the symposium focused on challenges and opportunities for states and
districts as President Obama submitted his proposal for the
reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
Following Secretary Duncan's remarks, Professor Wong presented his
research on urban school governance, innovation, and accountability. He
then led and moderated an hour-and-a-half long panel discussion on urban
school reform strategies that included the Secretary, Louisiana State
Superintendent, mayors, and an urban school superintendent. View the symposium agenda.
