Welcome to education outreach at Brown University.

Brown has a long history of engagement with Providence area schools. Each year, students and faculty from across the University participate in a variety of programs and initiatives aimed at providing educational opportunities to local students.

This website was created to serve as a resource for members of the Brown, Providence and Rhode Island communities interested in learning about the University’s work in local public schools.

Opportunities for Students and Teachers:

GK-12 Science Education Program (PDF) – We’re looking for Providence Public School science teachers interested in a paid summer research experience in Brown laboratories.

News

All secondary students in Providence Public Schools will receive graphing calculators in their mathematics classrooms as part of the first round of grants from the Fund for the Education of the Children of Providence.

Brown announces the creation of a $10-million endowment and Urban Education Fellowships to support local public education.

Brown partners with Hope High School and Texas Instruments to strengthen student engagement and achievement in math through the Algebra in Motion Program.

Brown receives $1-million grant from The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation to establish a College Advising Corps aimed at increasing college enrollment among low-income students in Rhode Island.

The National Science Foundation awards University $3-million dollars to help enrich science programs in Providence schools by training Brown graduate students to develop and implement hands-on, inquiry-based activities in elementary and high school classrooms.
