K-12 Education Outreach at Brown University – An Overview
Brown has over 50 education outreach programs for local schools.
Staff, faculty and students from 16 departments across campus are engaged in outreach. These departments include:

Programs for students, teachers and administrators generally fall into the following categories:
Programs for Students – Academic Enrichment, College Access, Mentoring/Leadership
Academic Enrichment programs help elementary, middle and high school students develop skills and interest in math, science, technology, literacy, arts and other areas.
College Access programs encourage and support students in exploring and pursuing a college education, and provide assistance to high school guidance counselors.
Mentoring/Leadership programs connect Providence students with Brown students with the goal of helping Providence students develop academically and socially.
Programs for Teachers – Professional/Curriculum Development
Professional/Curriculum Development programs provide Providence teachers with opportunities to conduct research, develop lessons, increase their content knowledge, and explore different strategies for teaching.
Programs for Administrators/Districts – Research, Technical Assistance, Policy
Research
Brown faculty and students are beginning to provide district and state administrators with research and data analysis that help inform program and policy decisions.
Technical Assistance
Brown assists school, district, and state administrators in reviewing, developing and implementing programs and systems aimed at improving teaching and learning in schools.
Policy
Brown participates in advisory groups and other activities to support district and state policymakers in their efforts to address challenges in public education.
