Graduate Program
A reading knowledge of both German and French is recommended before admission as a graduate student, and an examination in German must be passed by Graduate students in their first year. Undergraduate students interested in the Graduate Program in Egyptology should have had at least two semesters of ancient language. When that is not possible, a background in classics or ancient Near Eastern studies is recommended. Students interested in the graduate program are encouraged to contact the department prior to admission. Exceptionally, an applicant who lacks a background in Egyptian language may be admitted either on probation or as a Post-Baccalaureate Special Status student.

Graduate programs leading to Masters of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees are not rigidly formulated. They are arranged with regards to each student's needs, interests, and previous training. Applicants for the Doctor of Philosophy degree should have completed the Masters of Arts (or equivalent) in Egyptology.
