EN100 spring 2005 Spec for:

SAE Car brake caliper

Josh Dunford, Andrew Waterbury

The calipers will use the same Wilwood 7012 series of commercially available brake pads as "Dynalite Single."

They will weigh less than 2.00 lbs, 10% less than the Dynalite Single.

Calipers will be no more than 3.57 inches wide, 0.25in. narrower than the Dynalite Single.

Will fit brake discs 0.25 in. - 0.125 in. thick (Dyn. Single requires rotors at least 0.25in.)

Will withstand brake fluid pressures up to 1090 psi without leakage.

Will be no less than 80% as stiff as Dynalite Single calipers.

Qualification Testing

The calipers will be weighed, fully assembled with hardware, pistons, and brake pads. The calipers will be proof-tested to line pressure of 1000 psi using in-line Texas Instruments pressure sensors and inspected for leakage.

A Wilwood Dynalite Single caliper will be bolted to a test stand, a line pressure of 1000 psi will be applied, and the lateral deflection at the center of the piston will be measured. Our brake calipers will be tested similarly and the stiffness results compared.
