The deadline for Nonfiction honors applications has been extended to April 12, 2012.
Applications to the Honors Program in Nonfiction Writing must be submitted no later than the second semester of a student's junior year. The application submission deadline is Thursday,
April 5, 2012.
The application procedure consists of the following steps.
1. If you have not yet declared your concentration in English, please see Catherine Imbriglio, Honors Advisor in Nonfiction Writing, for guidance in completing the concentration form, and submit a copy of the Registrar's internal academic transcript of grades for courses completed at Brown or transferred for credit.
2. Complete the Honors Program application and submit it to the department as early as possible (but no later than April 5) in the spring semester of your junior year. Forms are available online and in the English Department office at 70 Brown Street.
3. Arrange for two letters to be submitted by the application deadline: (a) A letter of recommendation and support from the English faculty member who has agreed to serve as your first reader, and (b) a letter of recommendation from an English literature faculty member or a faculty member in the Nonfiction Writing Program teaching 1000-level courses from whom you have taken a course. (If necessary, letters may come from faculty in related departments. Letters from teaching assistants may only serve as supplementary recommendations.)
4. Provide a sample (15-20 pages) of your writing from a Nonfiction Writing course, preferably 1000-level, and appropriate to your proposed project.
5. Submit a proposal of your project, signed by the faculty member who has agreed to serve as your first reader. The proposal should include the rationale of the project, your background in relation to it, and a bibliography.
