Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions

First held in 1893 and every five years since 1993, the Parliament of the World’s Religions is a gathering of people of faith and other interested people of goodwill. This December the CPWR will be holding an international Parliament in Melbourne, Australia. This year’s theme, Make a World of Difference: Hearing each other, Healing the earth, reflects the urgent need for religious communities and all people of goodwill to act on their concerns for the environment.  Thousands of people from around the world will convene to renew their work for the future of the planet.  The Parliament will run for seven days with approximately 450 events including keynote addresses, seminars, conferences, debates, performances, concerts and exhibitions. Harmony and interfaith dialogue are invaluable at this stage in world history, in which understanding and respect between those of different beliefs is needed for peace and justice to prevail.

The event will be held at the Melbourne Convention Centre, which has received a six star environmental rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.

International Greening Education Event in Karlsruhe, Germany

A three-day International Event on Greening Education will be held from 30th September to 2nd October 2009 in the "green" city of Karlsruhe, Germany. This event will take education and environmental policy makers, government and non-governmental organisations, education institutions, teachers, international agencies and environmental professionals through the need for greening education, and then discuss effective initiatives that governments, education institutions and development organisations need to take and can take to provide sustainable knowledge, skills, values and practices in the classrooms and in the communities.

Further to the knowledge sharing on greening education including topics such as ecologizing curriculum (incorporating sustainability in curriculum), greening delivery of courses (sustainability compatible education delivery) and low carbon education institutions; the upcoming event also provides an excellent networking opportunity with education institutions, international agencies, governmental and non-governmental organisations, sustainable development practitioners and other stakeholders in Europe and beyond.

A Better World By Design Conference

 October 2-4, 2009

Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design

A Better World by Design brings a global community of innovators to Providence, Rhode Island, to reach across disciplines and unite under a common goal. Presenters share engaging stories, workshops teach creative skills, and discussions reframe perspectives. A Better World by Design is an immersive experience that deepens our understanding of the power of design, technology, and enterprise to reshape our communities and sustain our environment.

A Better World by Design will inspire you, connect you with incredible people, and impel you to make tangible change locally and globally. The conference will expose you to different perspectives—both theoretical and practical—on many issues. How does an architect build for the poor? In 2008, we heard from Architecture for Humanity Founder Cameron Sinclair and learned to build with bamboo from RISD Professor of Architecture Miya Buxton. How can an enterprise be both green and profitable? Last year, we heard from Better Place Vice President Aliza Peleg and discussed pragmatic steps for implementing a triple bottom line approach with Ecolect Founder Matt Grigsby. Dozens of pertinent questions like these are addressed in presentations, panels, workshops, tours, and projects. And you'll meet hundreds of inspiring professionals and students at social events. Any casual conversation could spark opportunities for collaboration.

Space is limited, so register now! Pricing is as follows:

General: $120
Students: $50
Single Day (Brown/RISD students only): $25

For more information and to register, visit http://www.abetterworldbydesign.com/register.php.
