Biography

Dr. Tanner's research focuses on the social embeddedness of trading networks in East Africa and South Asia, the human impacts of climate change in small island nation states, community development, livelihood strategies and Ecotourism. She has worked as a Fulbright Fellow (Madagascar 2000/1), Tanzania Program Coordinator for Earth Island Institute (2001/2), and a Visiting Assistant Professor of geography at Sarah Lawrence College (2006-8). Dr Tanner completed her M.Phil. & Ph.D. degrees at the University of Cambridge in the Department of Geography and Darwin College, where she was an active participant in the Political Ecology of Development research group.
