Michael Powers

Prior to joining Brown, Michael obtained his B.A. in German Studies from New College of Florida, in which time he also spent a year at the Universität Kassel taking courses on literature and film. His bachelor’s thesis was titled “Experience over Reason: Werner Herzog’s Kaspar Hauser.” Following graduation, Michael returned to Germany, this time to Leipzig, where he spent a year as part of the Fulbright Exchange teaching English at a German Gymnasium and attending courses at the Universität Leipzig. His research interests at Brown include the literary movements of early and late German Romanticism, as well as German Modernism. Other interests include literary theory, philosophy, aesthetics and visual theory.
