November 2008:
Miss Thosaeng Chaochuti, Ph.D., '02
After her double major in German and English at Brown , she went on to do a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature at UCLA. German was actually her major area, and she even went on an exchange program to Berlin for one year. It was a great experience! She graduated earlier this year and returned home to Bangkok, Thailand where she has been teaching at a local university. Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University Phayathai Rd., Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330, Thailand
Kemisha Williams, '08
Currently attending law school at the University of Texas in Austin. She is seeking an LLM international student to be her tandem speaking partner in order to maintain her German speaking skills.
Marc Levitt, '02
"To say that my German degree has been of inordinate value would be the understatement of the year."
"In addition to the Fulbright fellowship I studied under in Berlin, I've used my German acumen on the Obama campaign the last couple of years. As you may know, BO went to Berlin in July. It so happened that my fluency was an incredible asset, as we went there without Embassy or State Department support. I was the only member of the advance department fluent in German, and so I played a pivotal role in organizing the entire venture."
If you'd like more detail on that, I'd love to share it. If it hadn't been for my German studies I wouldn't have been able to play this intensely historically interesting/valuable role. I've got great pictures from the trip, including one of me right behind then-Senator Obama's stage at the Siegesaeule before he went on."
"Next is moving to DC to work there in an as yet unknown capacity "
Kazim Koseoglu, '07
'After graduation I moved to London and for 2 years been working for a private equity firm in London. "
Steve D'Evelyn, '99
"I was a German Studies concentrator at Brown and graduated in 1999. My German studies work has proven invaluable in my work as an academic, not only becuase the first focus of my research has been Hildegard von Bingen and most of teh best scholarship on her has been written in German, but because it has proven very useful to be able to tarvel to Germany to conduct research at places such as the Bayerische Akademie der Wissenschaften in Muenchen. It is important too for status (you are taken more seriously as a scholar if you can work in German) and simply for quality of life; my housemate last year was German, for instance, and it was nice to be able to chat with him in his natiuve language and was even more useful when his wife came to visit and she did not have very good English. And living here in the UK i find knowing German makes me feel even closer to continental Europe (one can haer German radio quite often at night on AM) and I feel a tighter connection to the heart of Continental Europe. German Studies has benefited me in many ways I could never have foreseen when I began as a concentrator in the mid '90's. I am very grateful to Brown's department if Germanic Studies. "

Higonnet, '01
"After graduating from Brown, I spent a year in Goettingen on a Fulbright Grant, then went to Cornell, where I got an M.A. in comparative literature, and then (finally!) to GW Law School. I am now working at a law firm in Boston."
