Tuition Fellowships
School of Criticism and Theory
The Cogut Center for the Humanities will sponsor two participants in the 2009 summer session at the School of Criticism and Theory (SCT) at Cornell University. Sponsored participants can be senior graduate students or junior faculty members. Selected by the Governing Board of the Cogut Center, selected participants are guaranteed a place in the SCT program, with tuition paid by the Cogut Center. Participants are responsible for their housing and meals.
SCT [www.arts.cornell.edu/sochum/sct] is “an international program of study with leading figures in critical thought.” It is held this year between June 14 and July 23 on the Cornell campus. The 2009 faculty members include Simon During, Geoff Eley, Leela Gandhi, Michael Steinberg and Suzanne Stewart-Steinberg.
The nominated graduate students must
- already be supported (i.e., is a continuing student with support in the department)
- have passed their exams and advanced to the dissertation writing stage
- have the support of their advisor and DGS
- not be beyond the sixth year
Candidates must submit the application form (see below), a statement of purpose and two letters of recommendation. The statement of purpose must be of no more than two pages, describing current scholarly interests and plans and how the SCT might further those interests and plans. The statement should include information about courses taken and/or taught in criticism and theory.
