Empowering Your Future Conference Information 2008 |
On Saturday November 15, 2008, Brown University’s Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC), NSF GK-12 Program and the Division of Engineering are sponsoring an event called Empowering Your Future: A Science, Math, and Engineering Conference for Girls, Parents, and Accompanying Adults. The conference is intended for Girls in Grades 8-10 and will expose them to science in a fun and educational environment. Various student sessions will be offered to showcase real life applications of math and science. The conference will also feature special information sessions for parents and accompanying adults, focusing on helping girls with study skills, and on financial aid and other college-preparatory concerns.
This is an excellent opportunity for girls and their parents or accompanying adults to find out more about the possibilities that science, math, and engineering offer. Teachers who attend are able to sit in on the student modules to get new ideas they might use in their own classrooms.
Attendance at the conference costs $10 for participating families (fee waivers are available), including lunch and all materials. The conference is open to girls in grades 8-10 and their parents or other accompanying adults (male or female). Girls are welcome to attend with an adult other than their parent. If your school is interested, you can arrange for group registration.
Registration for the conference is limited, so please return your forms as soon as possible, but no later than October 31, 2008. Pre-registration is required!
