Mazzanti's Fisherman

The picture of the fisherman as drawn in the original text has qualities of monstrous perversion like those of Innocenti. They are, however, realized in a different light. Primarily, the fisherman resembles a sea-monster: a hybrid of a human being and a supernatural creature related to the sea. The hair is drawn to resemble sea-weed and his beard and face resemble that of a shark or another creature of the sea. The size of this creature is “cycloptic” – he is a giant possessing a human “logos” but not a code of human morality which makes his desire to eat Pinocchio cannibalistic. This `logos` is further conceived through the malicious look in the creature's eyes that is not present in Mazzanti's Shark
