The Disney picture is quite “American” in its portayal of “Monstro” the whale. The creature is that of pure malice: the eyes are filled with anger, and the “finds” that are very close to the eyes create a combination of an ear and a fin making the actual nature of the creature impossible to decipher. It resembles a whale but it is something beyond it. If the movie is seen, one can fully appreciate the animation for its continuous mobility and “wetness”. The enormous whale is the definition of monstrous evil: a slimy hybrid fueled by an evil desire to destroy all life. Whether the picture’s effect is one of overkill, however, is left to the individual observer to decide.
