rollant reunited with parents
Having been raised from infancy by foster parents and tutors, Rollant is finally reunited with his mother Gilem and (for all practical purposes) his father Milon, at the age of seven.
King Karlamagnus went to Orliens, and young Lord Rollant and both of the boy's guardians went with him. The king then sent for Milon, his brother-in-law, and Gilem, his sister, bidding them to come to court, and they came, with seven thousand [elsewhere: seven hundred] knights; and there they found Rollant, whom they longed for greatly, for he was their only child.
King Karlamagnus kissed them both, and set them in the high seat next to him, and had Rollant called to him. His foster-fathers led him there, well-dressed in a kirtle made of good, soft skins, with a shirt of the best linen underneath, and fine shoes of cordovan leather, made from lion's hide. Geirard and Dreia led him between them, and King Karlamagnus had forty sons of powerful men accompany him, for his amusement and honor.

Milon went to meet him, and took him in his arms and kissed him, then took him to Gilem and set him down between them, and thus they sat during the feast. And when the feast was at an end, Gilem asked the king to permit Rollant to go with them to Brettania, and let the people there become acquainted with him. And he granted her request readily. Then they took their leave to depart and went home, and with Rollant went all forty of the sons of the most powerful men in Valland.
And when Milon came home to Angler with Gilem and Rollant, there was a great celebration there, and they took care of him and all his company with the greatest possible honor. Meanwhile, King Karlamagnus went back to Eiss.
