Then the king said, "Then I will first number my kinsman Rollant; second, Oliver; third, Archbishop Turpin; fouth, Gerer; fifth, Gerin; sixth, Baeringur; seventh, Hatun; eighth, Samson; ninth, Engeler; tenth, Ivi ["Ivun"]; eleventh, Ivori ["Iforias"]; twelfth, Valter. These peers I appoint to steer against the heathens, in remembrance that God appointed His twelve apostles to preach God's message around all the world. And I wish each of you to strengthen the other, and to support each other in every danger as if you were brothers after the flesh."

And they agreed to this gladly.
