jmiranda: What was the significance of the fresco of a Villa in a townhouse in Pompeii (slide 11)? How does it relate to the idea of “otium” or cultivated leisure?

What was the comparison between Pompey and Alexander the Great (slide 15)? How does Pompey’s association of his image with Alexander the Great compare to other later Roman leaders?

Can you review what we talked about for the monument of the Rabirii on the Via Appia? I know that it was a funerary monument along the Via Appia for the Rabirii family, but I don't remember the artistic significance of the monument.

haoki: What is the identification for Slide No. 47? Also, it would be nice to quickly go over the change in styles (architecture, portraiture/sculptural figures, wall paintings) from the founding of the Republic to the reign of Vespasian. I understand this covers a lot, but a broad review of themes would be helpful.

Posted at Mar 10/2011 09:23PM:
sengle: I do not remember discussing the necropolis at Herculaneum (slide #31). Does this slide of a necropolis that probably housed the remains of wealthy citizens serve as a juxtaposition to the funeral clubs to which many non-affluent citizens of Rome belonged?

Posted at Mar 10/2011 09:59PM:
nelder: I only saw second style frescoes in the slides. Will the other styles be emphasized on the exam?
