About Us
The warrior-students of Professor Laurel Bestock's Ancient Egyptian Warfare class (ARCH 1630) have organized an action-packed recreation of the Battle of Kadesh at Brown University, taking place on Thursday April 17th on the Quiet Green.
The focus of our class is on source-based evidence of warfare in Ancient Egypt from the Predynastic Period through the Late Period. Our class has elected to reconstruct the Battle of Kadesh, one of the most extensively documented battles in Ancient Egyptian history. The Battle of Kadesh took place in the New Kingdom during Ramses II ("The Great")'s campaign to the levant and his subsequent skirmishes with the Hittite army. Our goal is to create an entertaining, accurate, and critical interpretation of Ramses' account of the battle.
Since we believe that the ancient Egyptians would have loved social media, we have decided to "update" the battle to make it easy to follow and inclusive for the audience--we plan to live-tweet the events as they occur! For all sorts of facts and information about the battle as well as live updates, please explore this site and follow us on Twitter,
