Brief History of Brown University
Founded in 1764, Brown University is the third oldest college in New England and the seventh oldest in the United States. We are part of the so-called “Ivy League”, a group of eight prestigious colleges and universities located in the northeastern region of the United States. There are currently 5,821 undergraduate men and women enrolled, from every state in the Union and dozens of foreign countries, as well as 1,834 graduate students and 370 medical students. Brown University maintains a distinguished teaching faculty in the Humanities, Life/Medical Sciences, the Physical Sciences, and the Social Sciences – numbering a total of 679 educators.
