Tableau #2: X Wallpaper
In our first of many nods to restating the obvious we revise Warhol's total design environments (a la Chairman Mao) and Holzer's `Truisms' for our own decorative effects. We are impressed by the connection we perceive between media legibility and radical psychological flatness. A collage design motif featuring heads of Malcolm X mixed with text quotations by or about him will form the ground for our forays into the visual marketplace of ideas. The impossibly flat, depthless surface of the media will be enlarged to repetitive room size.
"Democracy is Hypocrisy"the form may change, the faces may change, the actors may change, but the fundamental relationship to you doesn't change. - William Strickland, U. Mass, Amherst (Quicktime animation of dollar bills)
