Artist Statement

My recent work utilizes forms of serial narrative, documentary practice, and the collaging, codifying and indexing of visual “fragments.” I often select images that mark the passage of time to explore the interconnections between transience and definitions of the sublime.

My photographs begin as a type of note taking, a series of quick observations developed in "one hour" photo labs. I often juxtapose this “snapshot” approach toward photography with a carefully composed grouping of images, in order to reinforce both their differences and possible connections. Simultaneously, each image marks the intersection between photographer and subject at a specific point in space and time. The resulting works read as formal documents, a framing of my consciousness and observation, and as a series of ephemera that both mirror and reproduce the incomplete and transitory nature of “sublime” or “perfect” moments.
