The MCB DNA Tracker site manages a joint project between Brown University and the Marine Biological Laboratory at Woods Hole to provide DNA sequencing services to Brown and Brown-affiliated laboratories. The site is designed to allow researchers to submit and track their DNA samples.

Once your laboratory profile is created, you will be issued pre-printed coded labels that will allow you to enter your samples into the system. To create a laboratory profile or user's profile, contact the system administrator at MCB_DNA@brown.edu. Laboratory users must include their Brown username, the name of the PI and his/her e-mail address. Click the welcome message for a brief overview of the process, or click instructions for a more detailed description. (Note: Once you are logged in you can click the "help" link in the upper right hand corner of the page).

To set up reactions, combine in a 500 ul microfuge tube: 500-1000 ng plasmid or 50-100 ng PCR product plus 30 pmol of primer. The total volume should be made up to 10 ul using distilled water. Please measure template and primer concentration accurately since it directly affects the quality of the sequencing reactions. All dilutions should be made in distilled water.

Samples will be shipped from Brown every Monday (or Tuesday if there is a holiday) and must be entered into the system and delivered to either the BMC or LMM stockrooms no later than 12:00, noon. Services will be billed to the designated accounts on a monthly basis, the current price is $4.25/sequence. Finished sequence data will be posted to the user's server folder on Wednesday or Thursday of the same week.
