Aleysia Whitmore Wins Prize for Ethnomusicology Paper

Aleysia Whitmore has been awarded the 2012 African Libraries Student Paper Prize from the African Music Section of the Society for Ethnomusicology. The prize is awarded "to recognize the most distinguished student paper delivered on the topic of African and African diasporan music presented at the SEM annual meeting" (http://www.ethnomusicology.org/?Prizes_AfMS). It includes a monetary prize to be donated to an African library selected by the prize winner. Aleysia's conference paper, titled "'Cuban Music is African Music': Negotiating Africa and its Diaspora on the World Music Stage,"will also be published inAfrican Music: Journal of the International Library of African Music.
