Brown University Chorus: Individual Development, Community Building, Cultural Exchange

Audition Information

"Auditions are held at the beginning of each semester. Anyone interested in singing with us for Spring 2012 should email Fred Jodry at Fred_Jodry@brown.edu

WEEKLY REHEARSALS ARE HELD IN THE STEINERT PRACTICE CENTER
(corner of Hope & Power streets)

FULL CHOIR: MONDAYS & WEDNESDAYS, 6:30-8:30 P.M.
SECTIONALS: TWICE A MONTH, 8:30-9:00 P.M.

The Brown University Chorus is a great way to meet a wide range of undergraduate and graduate students, while working toward a high artistic goal of beautiful singing. For dedicated singers, regular required attendance at rehearsals and sectionals and frequent performance opportunities, and social gatherings guarantee a rewarding experience.

The Chorus may be taken for credit (one half credit per semester).
Register for MUSC0600 (FALL) - MUSC0601 (SPRING)

AUDITION PROCEDURE:
1) The audition consists of singing simple scales and warm-ups and a prepared song, aria, or ditty of your choosing (a Christmas carol, patriotic song, hymn, madrigal --anything you know well).
2) Ear-training: repeating simple melodies, intervals and a brief excerpt for sight-singing.
3) Voice size, tone, vowel clarity, pitch and general musicianship will be considered! Enthusiasm and confidence help too. Preference is given to those with prior choral or vocal experience. Bring a brief resume of your vocal and/choral experience
4) Returning singers are required to re-audition each year.
5) A chorus audition can also count as an audition for applied voice, if you are interested in private voice study for credit. ( NOTE: a fee applies for AMP voice lessons).

Bring a prepared piece to the audition if possible (not required) and be prepared to sight-read.

If you have any questions or concerns about audition expectations please email Fred_Jodry@brown.edu with your inquiry.
