1st Year (PL-1)

First-year pediatric residents are appointed through the National Residency Matching Program. The goal of the first year is to develop competency in the diagnosis and treatment of common problems in general pediatrics. Under the supervision of faculty and senior house officers, first-year residents are exposed to a broad scope of pediatric medicine:

  1. Wards
  2. Wards
  3. Wards
  4. Heme/Onc
  5. NICU
  6. NICU
  7. PICU
  8. ER
  9. Behavioral Pediatrics
  10. NNN (Newborn Nursery)
  11. NNN
  12. Night Float

The residents are responsible for initial comprehensive evaluations and follow-up care on inpatient and ambulatory patients. They begin to develop their own practice of "continuity" patients, which they see in their weekly continuity clinics and will continue to follow throughout the three-year training period.
