3rd Year (PL-3)

The goal of this year is to develop independent management of common problems as well as unusual, complex, and critical clinical problems. The senior residents have major responsibility for the quality of patient care, the coordination of service activities, and the teaching of junior residents and medical students. They direct inpatient teams, act as pediatric consultants to other services, and have the opportunity to devise a month-long advocacy project or enter into a research project of their own interest. We expect these activities will prepare residents for the next stage of their careers, whether private practice of advanced subspecialty training. Block rotations include:

  1. Wards - Team Leader
  2. PICU Team Leader
  3. Elective (picu call)
  4. Elective (picu call)
  5. Newborn Nursery
  6. Urgent Care
  7. Teaching Resident (cross cover wards call)
  8. ER
  9. ER
  10. Variable month (either Wards - Team Leader, NF, Elective with ward cross cover call)
  11. Elective
  12. Elective
