Dear Prospective Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in the Brown Medical School Pediatric Residency Program. I am both proud and honored to be a part of the training opportunities offered at Hasbro Children's Hospital.

Perhaps our strongest selling point is our residents. Consistently, we have had the exceptionally good fortune to match with the most wonderful residents that a program director could hope for. They are universally an exceptionally bright, collegial, fun group that develops friendships that last for life. Their idealism and efforts to make the world a better place for children is truly unique and remarkable. It is an absolute joy to rub shoulders with them on a daily basis.

The clinical breadth and educational opportunity here are hard to match anywhere in the country. Hasbro Children's Hospital is the only children's hospital for our state and surrounding region. Consequently, each and every child with medical need, be it a new concern, a chronic problem, or an obscure diagnosis, comes through our front doors. In addition, this is a hospital that depends upon its residents to provide care, rather than taking a back seat simply to observe and take orders. The diversity of our patient base is astonishing. Our patients come from the most upper class settings right on through the most vulnerable. We care for children and adolescents who have recently arrived from all corners of the earth. Nonetheless, each and every patient is cared for by a resident in an identical fashion without any discrimination.

Finally, Providence is a wonderful place to live, and continues to be recognized for its outstanding quality of life. It is equally important to me that residents are as happy in the hospital as they are in their time off. Providence is a vibrant, growing, progressive city that does not shut its doors at 5:00 PM. Housing remains affordable, commutes are easy, and the ocean beaches, ponds, and woods are all a stone's throw away. To date, our residents are so happy with their training and lifestyle that they frequently opt to stay in the area for their life's career.

Ultimately, I want each and every resident here at Brown to be successful. It's my job and philosophy to help you to define what that success is, and work with you to attain that goal.

Sincerely,
Adam Pallant, MD/PhD
