Women and Infant's Hospital

Rhode Island Hospital has 22 state of the art main operating suites. Directly connected to the main ORs are 5 dedicated pediatric operating suites in Hasbro Children's Hospital. The Ambulatory Surgery Center adds an additional 12 operating rooms and minor procedure rooms primarily for outpatient or smaller procedures.

 

In addition, plastic surgery and orthopedic surgery operate in the privately owned Dudley Street Operatory (DSO) containing 3 suites for cosmetic and hand surgery. All procedures at the DSO, including extensive body contouring, are performed with deep sedation under the supervision of our skilled anesthesia staff. Residents also spend significant time operating in a highly efficient outpatient Wayland Surgicenter located in the trendy Wayland Square area of Providence.

 

Adjacent to our campus, Women & Infants Hospital contains ten operating suites, and 80 NICU beds. With 9000 deliveries annually, it is the 7th largest obstetrical serivce in the US and 2nd in New England. Our Plastic Surgery staff often provide consultation and services at W&I for programs such as the hospital's neonatal and gynecological tumor service.

 

Off-campus, the Providence Veterans' Administration Hospital boasts 5 brand new operating suites constructed in 2010. Residents also have the opportunity to operate at the Miriam Hospital.

 

Rhode Island Hospital is the only Level 1 trauma and burn center between Boston and New Haven, making it the busiest in all of New England and one of the top 10 busiest in the country. The ER is housed in a building newly completed in 2005, containing 6 spacious trauma bays with 12 beds and over 40 single-patient ER rooms well-equipped for common procedures. Supplies and equipment such as fluroscan machines are readily accessible. In addition, plastic surgery procedure trays with instruments selected by our department are available. In the Hasbro Children's Hospital Emergency Room, sedation is readily available for pediatric procedures.
