Brown University Alpert Medical School | Rhode Island Hospital
Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Why I chose Brown
First and foremost it's the resident camaraderie, culture of teaching and guiding those below when appropriate, and graduated autonomy. The faculty are teachers, role models, friends, and incredibly well-connected. The exposure to trauma here is unlike any I've personally encountered elsewhere, and particularly craniofacial and hand trauma. Overall, the case exposure is very broad and there are a number of attendings who do the same cases with different approaches. The curriculum is entirely geared towards maximizing plastic surgery resident benefit - and the general surgery rotations only enhance that experience with relevant training.
Interests in plastic surgery
-General and microsurgical reconstruction
-Incisional Hernia / Complex Abdominal Wall Reconstruction
Interests outside of medicine
-Music (guitar, concerts, etc)
-Going out with the co-residents or others from work and getting to know them away from work
-Highly competitive intramural sports
Favorite things to do in Providence
Nothing beats the BEACH on a long weekend, it's only a 45 minute drive.
Resident Karaoke night is a thing.
Broadway shows are always touring in town, super easy to get tickets and cheap!
Go out with a big group in Federal Hill and gorge on the ridiculous food.
Late night drinks / food / chili nachos on Thayer Street.
Waterfire is obviously on the list, everyone has to see it at least once.
