Why I chose Brown:
What immediately struck me about Brown was the people, including both residents and faculty. Plastic surgery is a competitive field which can at times be intimidating, but within Brown I found a group of residents who were not only intelligent and driven, but genuinely down-to-earth folks who could not have been friendlier. We also have a group of prominent faculty that somehow also maintains a self-effacing sense about themselves.
The case volume here is enormous! In addition to a healthy helping of facial and hand trauma, the breadth of cases also extends to general reconstructive and cosmetic procedures. Among all of the programs that I interviewed at, Brown easily had the highest volume of both trauma and aesthetic cases.
Brown is a rapidly evolving integrated program. Just within the few years that I have trained here I have witnessed dramatic changes to the curriculum, largely due to the input of both junior and senior residents. The program makes every effort to minimize the traditional hierarchical model of surgical training.
Miscellaneous reasons include the beautiful city of Providence, close proximity to an embarrassing number of beaches, and bevy of delicious food spots.
