Application for Graduate Admission

The Department of Politcal Science offers a combined A.M. / Ph.D progam. There is no terminal Masters program.

Brown University and the Department of Political Science prefer that you use the electronic on-line application form. First-time users should create an account; returning users can log-in directly. More application information is available on the Graduate School's website.

The deadline to apply is February 1st. Plan for your materials to arrive at the Graduate School by that date. Please upload all supporting materials to the online application. If you must mail hard copies, please send them directly to the Graduate School.

GRE and TOEFL information.

The Brown GRE code is 3094. Scores are valid for five years. GRE averages from admitted students are not available.

The Brown TOEFL code is also 3094. For more information on minimum score requirements, please review the Grad School's website on Language Proficiency.

Application materials

In order to apply, (1) you must fill out the online application, (2) upload copies of your transcript(s) (if you have more than one transcript, upload them all as a single document), (3) upload a personal statement also called a statement of purpose, (4) upload a writing sample of no more than 50 pages - it should be a good example of your writing, (5) have three letters of recommendation, (6) submit GRE scores, and (7) if applicable, submit TOEFL scores.
