5th Year Masters Degree (A.M)
The Department of Political Science offers a fifth year Masters degree program to Brown University undergraduates only. Current students must apply before graduation for the bachelors degree. There are two application forms - the online application and a supplemental paper form which must be approved by the Director of Graduate Studies. A transcript and 2-3 recommendation letters are required. GRE's are not required. Personal statement and resume are optional. Except for the online application, all forms should go to Barbara Bennett in the Graduate School.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
The Department of Politcal Science offers a combined A.M. / Ph.D progam. There is no terminal Masters program.
Brown University and the Department of Political Science prefer that you use the electronic on-line application form. First-time users should create an account; returning users can log-in directly. More application information is available on the Graduate School's website.
The deadline to apply is January 5th. Plan for your materials to arrive at the Graduate School by that date. Please upload all supporting materials to the online application. If you must mail hard copies, please send them directly to the Graduate School.

The Brown GRE code is 3094. Scores are valid for five years. GRE averages from admitted students are not available.
The Brown TOEFL code is also 3094. For more information on minimum score requirements, please review the Grad School's website on Language Proficiency.
In order to apply, (1) you must fill out the online application, (2) upload copies of your transcript(s) (if you have more than one transcript, upload them all as a single document), (3) upload a personal statement also called a statement of purpose, (4) upload a writing sample of no more than 50 pages - it should be a good example of your writing, (5) have three letters of recommendation, (6) submit GRE scores, and (7) if applicable, submit TOEFL scores.
