The 2010 healthcare law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, includes an individual healthcare mandate requiring Americans to obtain health insurance by 2014 or pay a fine. Opponents of healthcare argue this is beyond Congress's power. This Janus Lecture will address the question: Is the Healthcare Mandate Constitutional?

The Constitution Day Lecture came about through a federal mandate which requires that universities receiving public funds sponsor intellectual activities on the United States Constitution each year on September 17th. For the past six years, the Political Theory Project has sponsored Brown's Constitution Day Lecture in collaboration with the Office of the Provost. The lectures examine how the Constitution has shaped American culture, American lives, and the place of the United States in the world.
