Areas of Interest:
Democracy and Development, Qualitative and Quantitative Methodology, Spatial Social Science

I am interested in understanding the links between development and democracy, as well as the ways in which the two are structured by spatial arrangements and structural forces. I am also interested in learning and implementing new methodological and research design skills, including GIS and spatial analysis, comparative analysis and conceptualization, and regression-based quantitative analysis. I wrote my MA thesis on the effects of exile on political party action after return from exile, examining empirical instances in Iraq and South Africa. My dissertation will examine the effects of infrastructure expansion on economic development and segregation in South African mega-cities.
