The core of my research interests is migration, particularly in the Latin American context. Essentially, I am interested in the demographic and economic effects of migration especially on sending communities in the developing world. My current research includes issues such as: the changes in demographic dynamics related to migration; the intertwining of migration and life course decisions —such as union and family formation; the essential role of social capital and migrant networks in the migration process; and the effects of remittances in household and community well-being. At present, I am working studies on both Mexico and Guatemala. Longitudinal, event history and multilevel analyses are at the core of my methodological interests, along with demographic methods.
