Curriculum Vitae

Development, Demography, Africa

I am interested in exploring the roles of internal migration and urbanization in development in Africa. My purpose is to explore mechanisms that create and then enhance such forms of migration, and also scrutinize the benefits and cons of urbanization in Africa. My MA thesis focused on the determinants of migration in Ethiopia. I am interesting in exploring new theories of internal migration in Africa using a multi-method approach (event history analysis, focus group discussions, and spatial diagnostics). My dissertation will explore the determinants of internal migration in Ghana from 2002-2004. I am involved in a project in Ghana with Professor White, in which we explore the role of urbanization on people's health and how urbanization affects local environments. I took part in fieldwork in Ghana in the summer of 2006 and have also become interested in the affects of water quality on households and communities.
