Senior Search for Director of the Center for Environmental Studies

Brown University seeks a distinguished scholar with broad interdisciplinary interests in environmental issues to be the Director of the Center for Environmental Studies (CES). The Director will be responsible for overseeing faculty and programs in the CES, building on the Center's record of innovative interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate education, actively promotinginteraction between the CES and other environmental programs at Brown University, and enhancing the Center's presence in the community. CES interests encompass the humanities, natural sciences, public health and social sciences. Requirements include an outstanding scholarly recordmeriting a tenured appointment at the rank of Professor; commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education; demonstrated leadership experience, vision, administrative ability and communication skills in environmentally-related areas. The candidate must also have the potential for productive interaction with faculty within the CES, cooperating departments, the Environmental Change Initiative, the Watson Institute for International Studies, the Population Studies and Training Center, the Initiative in Spatial Structures in the Social Sciences, and the Center for Environmental Health and Technology. This appointment will be at the rank of Professor, tenured in the appropriate department.

Faculty Position with the Environmental Change Initiative

Tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor

As part of its Plan for Academic Enrichment, the Environmental Change Initiative and Brown University seek a faculty member at the ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR level, with broad interests between social and environmental systems working across scales. The Environmental Change Initiative (ECI) is aimed at fostering interdisciplinary research and education in the area of the environmental sciences. Brown University is making major investments in the ECI, including additional faculty appointments, new resources for interdisciplinary research training, and a new cooperative graduate program with the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. This appointment will be tenure track in the Department of Sociology, Geological Sciences, or Ecology and Evolutionary Biology; depending on the affinities of the candidate. We seek candidates who can integrate their research efforts with environmentally relevant natural sciences, spanning sociology, ecology, evolutionary biology and geology, and who have experience working in an interdisciplinary team.

Requirements include a Ph.D. in an environmentally-related discipline, a record of externally funded research and peer reviewed publications, and a commitment to excellence in graduate and undergraduate teaching.
