Jill - case study of one learner

"Jill" found it hard to make it to class more than once or twice a week. Sometimes she could not come at all. I had given her workbooks to use at home, and when she would come we would review the work. But she wasn't feeling like she was doing anything while working at home; not knowing if she was doing the work properly caused as much frustration as the lack of free, quiet time she had to herself to do the work.

I registered her on the Warwick Adult Ed. Distance learning site, and she was able to reserve time at the library once a week to take the online practice tests. She usually did this before coming in on the days she was free to attend class. By being able to do the tests online and see her scores, she was able to gauge her own progress outside of class. She was also more confident in her in-class work, since she knew she was on the right track.
