Our work in Art and Society seeks to better connect the arts with various communities and to introduce those who have been traditionally excluded from the arts to the practices of art production and appreciation. Programs work in a variety of media; many are interdisciplinary, breaking boundaries between art and education, health and community development.
Community Outreach through the Performing
Arts (COPA) uses the arts to build community through after-school
classes at Providence
Housing Authority sites. Teams teach workshops in creative writing,
dance, theater, and the visual arts. With the conviction that effective
teaching is an art form, volunteers work as a community of learning teachers.
