Advocacy, Activism and Community Organizing: Local Ocean State Action is a coalition of progressive community organizations, labor unions, and professional organizations that do public education, lobbying, and electoral work together.
Advocacy, Activism and Community Organizing: National Medicine as a Profession aims to encourage such values as fidelity to the patient, service to the community, advocacy for vulnerable populations, and commitment to the highest standards of medical practice. Health care professionals share a long and distinguished tradition of professional ethics which can be nourished through alliances with consumers and enhanced by providing opportunities for service and advocacy The Primary Care Advocacy Toolkit from the Society of Primary Care Policy Fellows (SPCPF) is educational resource promoting access and utilization of primary health care services. The National Health Law Program provides a wide range of resources on-line to support seeking justice in health care for low income people.
Environmental Health and Justice Alternatives for Community & Environment (ACE), based in Roxbury, MA, has been working in partnership with low income communities and communities of color to achieve environmental justice since 1993. The
EPA's Urban Environmental Initiative targets environmental and public
health problems in urban cities, including Providence, RI, and facilitates
community based environmental protection. Health Care Coverage and Quality The Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured focuses much of its work on Americans who lack health coverage and has released several reports to broaden understanding of who the uninsured are, why people lack insurance, and the consequences of not having health coverage. The National Coalition on Health Care is the nation's largest alliance working to improve health care. The Coalition, which was founded in 1990 and is non-profit and rigorously non-partisan, is comprised of almost 96 groups, employing or representing approximately 100 million Americans. Members are united in the belief that we need and can achieve better, more affordable health care for all Americans.
Fellowships and Internships The Soros Service Program for Community Health (SSPCH) fosters a commitment to service to the community and advocacy on behalf of vulnerable populations among medical students. SSPCH works with medical schools and a variety of community-based organizations to develop a community-based and led service learning medical education curriculum that is responsive to the needs and cultural diversity of the communities served. Health Publications Education for Health: Change in learning and practice invites reports on qualitative and quantitative research that can enhance educational practice, especially to enhance clinical practice. They also publish analyses, innovative ideas, and conceptual statements that may not necessarily be the product of research but which have implications for the decision-making of teachers and educational leaders.
