Longitude

Region/Community: Abeka, Ghana; Andhra Pradesh, India; Providence, Rhode Isalnd

Description: Longitude supports visionary leaders of grassroots educational and human rights initiatives by facilitating networks of international volunteer groups, resource management, and programmatic support. Longitude coordinates volunteer driven fundraising through project profiles on the web. Currently, Longitude is working on two projects. The Association of Relief Volunteers (ARV) in Andhra Pradesh India provides aid relief to the Dalit caste and collaborates with local and international volunteer groups to rebuild villages and provide health care. In Abeka, Ghana, Longitude has worked with the Professional Secretarial Academy (PROFESA) to secure dignified employment to disenfranchised women in the slums of the capital city.

From Charlie: My work with Longitude was born out of a course in Social Entrepreneurship at Brown. I worked with a group of students to design Longitude's initial business plan and continued working closely with the founders after our coursework was complete. After traveling to our project site in Ghana, I am now taking the semester off to serve as the Director of International Development.
