Martin West studies the politics of education reform efforts and their effectiveness in improving student achievement. His current projects examine the history of public-sector collective bargaining, the effects of the school consolidation movement on wages, the effects of test-based accountability on student achievement, and the use of education research by the courts. He is also co-editor of a forthcoming book on school finance adequacy litigation.

Biography

Martin West graduated from Williams College in 1998 with a B.A. degree in History. He received an M.Phil in Economic and Social History from Oxford University in 2000 and a Ph.D. in Government and Social Policy from Harvard University in 2006. Since 2001, he has served as the research editor for Education Next, a journal of opinion and research on education policy.
