The Susan Ross Steinfield Memorial Fund

With special thanks to Susie's husband
Joseph D. Steinfield

Susie graduated from Brown University in 1961. While at Brown she was deeply involved in the performing arts--music, theatre, and especially dance. She was a member of the Pembroke Dance Club and of the University Chorus. She worked on many theatrical productions, helped choreograph shows and danced in "The Boy Friend." She wrote the music for the Brownbrokers musical production "Happily Never After" (Lyrics by Elizabeth Diggs and Emily Arnold McCully) and contributed original music to other shows as well. In short, Susie's life at Brown was filled with pleasure, given and received, from the performing arts.

After Brown Susie went on to other careers--wife, mother, civil rights worker, community volunteer. In 1978 she obtained a masters degree in social work from Boston College, and added to her other pursuits a career as a psychotherapist.

But music, dance and theatre never lost their hold on Susie. She loved them all of her days. Sadly, those days are ended. Susie died of cancer on November 18, 1983.

Susie's family and friends have established The Susan Ross Steinfield Memorial Fund. This fund will be used to recognize Brown University seniors who have contributed significantly to the performing arts during their undergraduate years. We contemplate that one or more cash prizes will be awarded each year, beginning in 1985.

Tax-deductible contributions to the fund should be payable to Brown University--Susan Ross Steinfield '61 Fund" and mailed to Box 1893, Brown University, Providence, RI 02912.
