The Weston Fine Arts
Awards were endowed via a bequest by William G. '43 and Alethe D. '41
Weston who were involved in the performing and visual arts at Brown
and as adjuncts to their careers after college.
It was the wish of the
donors to create within Brown the opportunity for the University to
recognize and foster outstanding performances and meritorious achievements
in the Fine Arts by Brown students and to help in the further development
of their talent and abilities.
The prizes are to be
awarded each year in various performing and visual arts to include theatre,
music, writing, dance, art, film and television. The existence of the
awards is to be publicized in the Fall semester each year and the winners
selected and then feted at an annual dinner in the Spring semester.
The Weston awards categories are determined each year by the Governing
Committee of Department Chairs and the Weston Awards recipients are
selected individually by the various departments.
